I thoroughly enjoyed creating this project. I believe I’ve learnt a lot from creating this project as it’s taught me a great deal about how the structure, look and feel of the site is vital in enticing users to regularly view the site. If any of these are below satisfactory it may aid the decision making of users in visiting a different site to find out the information. Especially for a website like mine, where football scores and match report can also be found in many different websites such as: the BBC, Yahoo, or through various TV programs like “Sky Sports” or the “Final Score”. So as well as making the site user friendly I had to try and think of things to put in my site that make it stand out as different and superior to any of these other resources. I think I was successful in doing this through having useful things implemented that can be seen as “different” yet useful and relevant such as: Twitter feed of the possible football team, photo gallery, and even possible merchandise that may be available. I believe its little thing like this that single out a website and making it far more appealing for the user. Overall I’m very impressed with my website, and as I don’t believe I’m the best at designing websites and making them look attractive I believe my persistence has paid off here. I quite like the look of the site and like the face that the blue colour coincides with the team kit colour
I think there are many highlighted strengths available within this site. I like the fact that it includes social networking sites within the homepage, with “tweets” created of upcoming games. Personal opinions on games are also an advantage from this as well. I also am a big fan of the RSS feeds that I have chosen as well, as one states news from the welsh league including every team, which gives added information from the whole league which can be very useful for upcoming fixtures, or transfer news, with my other RSS giving information on football across Briton as some users may have a general interest in football across a broader location. I also made sure the writing was big enough for all users to be able to read, so made the text a “Heading 5” setting on every page as I thought this was of a sufficient size. I was also a bit sceptical at first of the colour white, but then thought it was the best colour to make the writing stand out on the blue background. To make sure it was a colour that was readable to users I asked a friend of mine who’s partially colour blind if he thought it was ok, and whether he could read it, and he could read it perfectly without any difficulty.
I don’t believe there were many weaknesses within my project. If I were to do the website again I would like to try and find a way to move the search bar to the top right hand side of the page as I think it’s clearer to see there, and in many of the popular websites this seems to be the set location. Another flaw I believe I have is that although there was plenty of content in the main section of the webpages, perhaps I could have done with putting more things on the left and right hand sides of the page as these were a bit bare at times, and made the main section look a bit dull.
Another vital input in my opinion was a set structure, where the user may see through all pages within the site. By this I mean having the search bar in a set location on every page, making sure the data available is situated in the same position with pictures underneath or on the side of the data then, so the main information is obvious for users to see, and then the pictures are there to brighten up the page and make it look more interesting, instead of just seeing pages of just data as this can become very tedious in my opinion. I also saw it vital to give users a clear navigation bar where all links were obvious and categorised well for the user to be able to find what they searched for without any real hassle. I believe I implemented this well, and really liked the way the categories gave a mini drop down menu of the further links within the navigation. This made it obvious to the user that there were further local navigation within the links as they would go to click on a link.
I would highly recommend this to all of my friends and anyone who would ask about the software to use in the future. I believe it is a very useful software for creating a website and I found it very easy to use. Although for the first few minutes I had to try to get used to the tool and what tools were needed to move and create new sections. After this I found the software great and highly effective. I also couldn’t believe how easy it was to input applications into the site, such as the Google Maps and the direction printer. To begin with I was a bit worried about the difficulty to input a map into my site, so when I researched the process of inputting it, I couldn’t believe how easy it actually was. I was also amazed with the variety of different functions you could input into the site from all the different widgets, and was very impressed with the ease of getting them onto the site. I will definitely be using this software again if any more websites will need to be created, and would happily take up using the software to even create a website just as a hobby to pass the time, and to improve my design skills.
