Manager

MANAGER - Neville Powell - Neville returned ‘home’ when he agreed to take over Bangor in May 2007 to start what the Bangor faithful dubbed the ‘Nevillution’.

Until then, he had been the second longest-serving manager at one club - he took charge of Connah's Quay at the end of the first season of League of Wales football in May 1993.

He collected his first piece of silverware when they won the League of Wales League Cup, beating Ebbw Vale 1-0 in the 1996 final played at Caersws. Unfortunately, that proved to be Nev's penultimate game as a player for, in the very first match of the following season, he broke a leg at Llansantffraid, which curtailed his playing career.

Neville made his Football League debut as a 17-year old on St David's Day 1981 when he scored for Tranmere Rovers away at Torquay United. A skilful and hard-working midfielder, he made 86 League appearances for the Prenton Park club between 1981 and 1984, scoring four times.

He moved on to play for Bangor City in the Northern Premier League and quickly found himself part of the Citizens' team that qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1985, playing in all four games against Fredrikstad and Atletico Madrid.

Bangor City were founder members of the League of Wales in 1992 and, ironically, on the eve of his 29th birthday, Neville was on the losing side on the occasion of Nomads' very first win in the new competition.

After making more than 30 League of Wales appearances for City, Neville moved to Quay's then home, the Halfway Ground.

He played in 115 league and cup games for Nomads before the injury and has since twice led the club to the brink of European competition. In May 1998, Connah's Quay were less than half a minute away from winning the Welsh Cup final against Bangor City when a late equaliser took the game to extra-time and an eventual win on penalties for Neville's former club.

Neville's continuing ability to fashion a team on a low budget and nurture tremendous team spirit says much for his capabilities. The proof of this has been three successive Welsh Cup trophies during the last three seasons for Bangor City.

Under Neville's leadership, City won the Welsh Premier Leaugue title in 2011, the club's first chapionship since the 1990s. Neville was rewarded for this achievement by being crowned Welsh Premier League Manager of the Year for the second successive season. Born 2 September 1963
